Rawether for Windows V5.03.16.54
Information

New In Release V5.03.16.54 (April 26, 2002)

This release includes:

bulletNew Higher-Performance NDIS Driver - The new alternative "Multi-Packet Read" (MPR) driver can be offers higher performance (fewer lost packets) when monitoring 100Mbps Fast Ethernet and 1Gbps Gigabit Ethernet networks.

See the topic PCANDIS/PCAMPR Performance Comparison for additional information.

bulletNew WLAN Detector Sample - Illustrates an application that automatically detects a specific adapter without user interaction.

bulletNew Adapter Enumeration API - Rawether V5.01.13.50 and prior used a technique called "registry mining" to build the list of adapters presented in the Adapter Chooser. This technique often reported adapters that could not be opened by Rawether.

bulletImproved UNICODE Support - The original Rawether adapter enumeration API design as well as the W32NOpenAdapter function did not provide UNICODE support.

bulletAdapter-Specific Fixes - Added protection code for some often-reported apparently faulty NDIS miniports, such as the SMC EtherEZ when operating on Windows 2000.

bulletFixed Memory Leaks In W32N50 DLL - See Release Notes. These caused problems for applications that frequently opened and then closed adapters.

bulletNDIScope Improvements - Several improvements and added functionality.

bulletWindows XP Fixes - Fixed several potential problems reported by the Windows XP Driver Verifier. Modified driver code to allow it to be built under the new Windows XP DDK build environment.

bulletTerminal Server Fix - See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q259131.

bulletInstallation Improvements - Several enhancements to reduce problems associated with correct DLL and driver installation.

bulletDocumentation Improvements - Rawether Guide ported to Html Help and hopefully improved. Now almost 200 pages.

bulletNew Simplified Packet Receive Sample - Illustrates how to receive packets in a simple one-file, one thread, sample.

bulletNew Simplified Packet Send Sample - Illustrates how to receive packets in a simple one-file, one thread, sample. An oft-requested sample, although it uses a synchronous technique that is not highly recommended.

bulletNew Development Support Utilities - These may help in some routine chores.

bulletRawether Installation Verification Tool - Helps debug installation problems that occur during development.

bulletCompatibility With Previous Release - The system components (DLLs and drivers) provided in this Rawether release (V5.03.16.54 - April 26,2002) appear to be compatible with applications built using the previous Rawether release (V5.00.13.50 - April 23, 2001).

See the topic Rawether Compatibility Issues for more information.
